Stewardship is the call of the Christian life. We are stewards over what God has entrusted to us and being the “owner of the cattle on a thousand hills,” we simply cannot out-give the generosity of God. In 2 Corinthians chapter 9, the Apostle Paul is bragging on the generosity of the believers in Corinth. They have risen to the occasion of helping out the struggling church in Jerusalem and have pledged a very generous gift. In this passage, we learn that generosity is contagious, other Christians are being encouraged to give based on their giving. We also learn that covetousness is the enemy of generosity. Paul also brings out the principle of sowing and reaping. If we sow sparingly we will reap sparingly. When we are generous other people will praise and thank God for our generosity. God then gets the glory! To Paul, a truly thankful heart comes out of a spirit of generosity.
